Percussion Artist and Educator

Danish percussion artist Henrik Knarborg has showcased his talents as a soloist and chamber musician across Scandinavia, Europe, the USA, and Asia. He serves as the Head of Percussion at the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg, where he has revamped the percussion curriculum to incorporate modern principles including interpretation theory, practice strategies, and body-mind awareness inspired by the Japanese art Ki-Aikido.

Henrik has shared his teaching through masterclasses worldwide, including at renowned institutions such as The Juilliard in New York, Sibelius Academy in Finland, and Conservatorium van Amsterdam In 2007, he debuted the solo performance "Les sons de l’art" in Paris, blending theater and contemporary music In 2014, he became a percussionist with Århus Sinfonietta, Denmark's oldest and most esteemed contemporary music ensemble. In 2015, he introduced a novel approach to performance videos and published an artistic article on Simon Steen-Andersen’s "Split Point," he premiered solo at the prestigious PASIC ( world's largest percussion festival) opening concert in 2016.

Supported by the Danish Arts Council from 2017 to 2019, he undertook an extensive Artistic Research project focusing on his Ki-Aikido techniques and recording masterpieces in the percussion repertoire. Since 2020, he has focused on the role of the interpreter in the project The ART of Interpretation, also funded by the Danish Arts Council. Additionally, he is developing "Between and Beyond," a project exploring how sharing artistic methods across disciplines, especially music and dance, can expand our artistic perspectives and foster new audience engagement.

"My goal is to integrate music more deeply into society and inspire people to be more creative and attentive in their lives. My former teacher in Freiburg, Bernhard Wulff, once said that if society functioned like a well-coordinated chamber music group, we would all be much happier."

Constantly seeking the finest musicians to collaborate and refine his style, he has formed and performed with various groups both internationally and in Denmark  Read more
